My dad always told me "Those who can do. Those who can't teach. Those who
can't do either manage."
To me, *being President is an organizational issue*, not a
who-knows-unix-better issue. I think that those who know unix best should be
those running the servers and website or teaching it. I would like to give a
presentation or two perhaps, but my learning is too broad and not specific
enough in any particular area to be a great presenter. For the most part I
would like to *leave presentations to those more expert* than myself. (And I
would be happy to help presenters organize their material if they felt they
needed help because teaching / presenting isn't as strong of a skill of
theirs as their technical ability.)
I'm* not running for** best guru.* I'm running to be the one who *leads* the
group, gives* direction*, makes sure that formalities such as meeting rooms,
times, and topics are taken care of* in advance*, etc.
It is important to me that meetings happen and that they happen on *different
nights* of the week and month so that every one that wants to come *has a
chance to come*. It's also important to me that we have good PR.
That said, my hands-on technical abilities are not as string as my ability
to design, organize, teach, and duct-tape. But I don't want to downplay my
skillset too much - I started on gentoo, I've written quite a bit of online
documentation, I've even done some consulting online. I'm also Linux+
certified and I'll be working on LPI this summer. I was president of another
Users Group for a few months before my mission too. So I do have a
considerable amount experience.
